Armari Appliances

Since 2013 Armari has designed over 40 bespoke appliances for our customers, these have included highly ruggedised IOT and NUC based servers for kiosks and ANPR cameras, a shock and sea water ingress protected 2U server for monitoring tanker ship engines, many different media servers and 8-GPU 5U rack server.

The Armari Appliance Design Process

We can start an appliance design with full customer technical involvement or work to a specification and guidance as to how the product should look. Unlike most companies we don’t charge an upfront fee to get to an initial 3D model.

Once the initial model has been produced which can be done in as little as 1 week, we work to refine the 3D model until it fully represents the final product, where every element is fully modelled. This stage can be completed in as little as 4-weeks depending on the appliance complexity and how many standard, or off the shelf components can be used. From there we typically move to producing an A01 prototype. These typically cost in the region of 3x what the production appliance would cost and it's often the only upfront cost for the customer, which makes designing your own bespoke appliance very cost effective.

Some products start from very simple pencil sketches. We use this to create an initial block 3d model to show approximate placement of internal components. This then gets built up to a fully 3D modelled product before we move to the prototype stage.

Prototype & Validation

Prototype & Validation

Once an initial prototype is made, we carry out design validation, after which the prototype is delivered to the customer for the customer EVT testing and feedback stage. Any changes required is fed back to into the 3D model. New component parts might be needed or DVT samples made for certification testing.

Certification

DVT samples typically go through certification with a UKAS testing lab, depending on which markets the final products will be sold into. We work with UL, TUV, Nemko, 3ctest, Eurofins and Intel testing labs. We are a certified China CCC manufacturer, so products we design and manufacture can be sold to a global market.
Production, Integration, Testing & Delivery

Production, Integration, Testing & Delivery

Following DVT stage, some customers may require production PVT samples or go straight to mass production. At this stage we create production documentation following ISO standards, so every unit can be produced to the highest standards and reliability. This includes soak testing and per unit electrical safety testing.

Onsite Service & EOL WEEE Disposal

Not only do we provide design, manufacture, certification and production of bespoke appliances, we can also provide full warranty and global logistics services through to end of product life WEEE Disposal and recycling.

We have experience in designing simple 1U media servers through to high end NVMe NAS appliances including the manufacture of appropriate PCIe4 backplanes and cabling. Our own BrontaStor enterprise NAS is a great example of what is possible.

We have over 10 years of designing workstations under our own brand. You can have your own unique chassis designed, or simply take one of our existing designs branded as your own product in your own packaging for very little cost.

Rack mount servers make up around 70% of customer bespoke appliance designs, from the smallest 1U, though to high end enterprise 5U servers designed to take 10 GPUs. We have extensive experience in designing high end servers with advanced cooling for the highest wattage processors.

MINI-ITX APPLIANCES
With so much computing power now available from Mini-ITX down to Intel NUC and even thumb sized SOC computing elements like the Raspberry PICO, we can build products down to any scale including tiny IP68 passively cooled IOT appliances.
